Our City, Mátészalka

Mátészalka is situated in the north-east of Hungary in Szabolcs-SzatmárBereg County, not far from the Ukrainen and the Romanian borders. It is known as the capital of Szatmár region. Its population is nearly 20 thousand.

The Short History of the Hospital

The hospital was founded in 1927.
The main building was built in 1932, the building of the surgery in 1950.
The big hospital reconstruction started in 1986 and then modern Surgery, Central Operational Theatre and Intensive Care Unit, Laboratory, Trauma hotel wing, Radiological Unit were built.
We have a Breast Diagnostical Center and Screening Station from 1999 and we got a Computer Tomograph in 2000.
In 2006 we won a tender and our aim is to build an Emergency Health Care Unit, a Regional General Practitional Medical Service and a dispatcher service together with the Emergency Medical Services. The investment contains the expansion of the Cardiology and the Surgery Departments.

The Mátészalka Hospital provides about 130 thousand people. From the 440 beds 320 are active ones, 30 beds are in the Rehabilitation Department and 90 beds are in the Chronic In-Patient Department.

In the middle of the 90s a new diagnostical building was built between the old and the new buildings of the hospital.

The Central Physiotherapy works on the top floor and the Surgery, the Trauma Unit and the Ear-Nose and Throat Department together with the Ophthalmological Department work as an operative matrix.

The Trauma Unit is specialized in operations performed by arthroscopy.
We would like to pay attention to the ultra sound guided operations of the Surgery Department in case of haemorrhage, colon, rectal and breast tumours.
In the Ear-Nose and Throat Department together with the traditional operations the number of operations with endoscopy is increasing.
The Ophthalmological Department performs artificial eye lenses operations in increasing number.

The Intensive Therapy Unit, the Central Operation Theatre and the Central Laboratory, the Breast Screening Station, the Emergency Medical Department, the Neurological Unit, the Reumatological Unit, the Intensive Care Unit, the Chronic and Rehabilitation Units together with the Central Radiology Unit are very well-equipped.

In the Paediatric Wards parents can stay in with their children and in the Maternity Ward fathers can stay with their wives during delivery.

The TB clinic works in another place within the town.
We have several foundations and we give high-standard provision to each of our patients.
